The Nayad Woman of the Month is chosen for the unique way in which she embodies the Nayad spirit, and celebrated for the energy and passion that she brings to the art of living life to the fullest.

 

Background: As the daughter of a Navy pilot, Mary literally grew up around the world, moving from country to country, state to state, city to city. So "being in a new place" always felt as natural to her as breathing. After a period of exploring the world aboard a 65 foot wooden sailboat, she settled in the Washington D.C. area where she researched documentary films for many years for National Geographic. She also married and had two children, now 18 and 20. But family life has not slowed her down. Mary continues to travel, most recently to Peru, Cuba and Turkey, always with an eye toward history and collecting treasures for her art.

Fitness Focus: Tennis, tennis and more tennis! But Mary also enjoys dog walking and paddle boarding. She tries to incorporate at least one hour of physical activity every day, preferably outdoors.

Other Interests: Mary is a mixed media artist who specializes in collage and assemblage. She is particularly drawn to working with found objects and recycled materials that she collects while walking near home and traveling. Her pieces are comprised of items that others have discarded, while her canvases range from a Styrofoam food tray to woven pet fur encased in a clear box, to an entire room.

Lifestyle Philosophy: "Carve out time and a space in which you can find the passion that drives you; then explore it without concern for who does and does not approve."

NAYAD Review: Mary was the first customer who asked us, more than a year ago, if we could make her something that she could wear for tennis. We agreed to try, and out came the NAYAD skort, which has since become popular among female athletes of all different types and skill levels. But what Mary Singh loves most about NAYAD is the opportunity to choose her own colors. "I LOVE color, and I love tennis," she says. "And those two things are not always compatible. I don't often go to clubs that require players to wear white, and whenever I wear my NAYAD outfits, people ask me where I got them. I now have four bikinis and three tennis outfits, and am ready for more!"
